It’s that time of year when we all begin to look back on our accomplishments from 2018.
Did we get that promotion? Did we take a step closer to our dream? Did we practice kindness to strangers like we swore we would? Did we follow through on our health resolutions?
Maybe you followed through on everything this year, but maybe you got caught up in the ups and downs of life. For all my fellow dreamers out there, I have a couple pieces of advice:
- Be Kind To Yourself
It can be easy to fall into the melodramatic trap of, “Why didn’t I do what I promised myself? I failed at 2018. What a waste of a year.” When we step back and examine our thoughts, we can clearly see how over the top these statements are. Was your whole year a waste? Absolutely not.
Nobody is perfect 100% of time, and it is unreasonable for you to expect that from yourself.
- Finish The Year Strong
About this time of year it seems that many people get “senioritis”. 2018 is almost over and 2019 will be here in a few short weeks. I know I am not the only who has thought, “Well, I’ll just start being the person I want to be on January 1st”. Somehow believing that day is magical and we need it push us forward.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love New Years Day. This type A girl loves setting goals and dreaming for the coming months, but does that mean I throw in the towel and stop growing in the here and now? No.
Finish this year strong. It is never too late to start working towards your dream. You have everything you need inside of you to accomplish it.
Let these last few weeks propel you into the New Year with a new found passion.
What are some things that you can do in the next 3 weeks to finish 2018 on a positive note?
Go to more events with friends, make some Christmas dishes from scratch, and set another fitness challenge for the next 3 weeks. Love your positivity and your posts!
Thank you so much girl! Making some Christmas dishes is on my list too. I always say I am going to try new recipes, but I keep putting it off.
I’m going to attempt to make mince pies and a ginger bread house my scratch… That’s the idea anyways. Not too sure how they’ll turn out 🙂 what are you going to make? X
That is such a fun idea!! I really want to make a pie. I’ve never actually made one before :p
This is SO TRUE! I have absolutley been going over this past year in my head checking off the list of things I didn’t get accomplished in 2018! But in the next 3 weeks, I can focus on my writing, get back to my yoga practice, and make healthy food choices for those normal every day meals! Thanks!
I love this. I think it is important for us to think about the things we have accomplished, not focus on the things we didn’t. But acknowledge it and make a plan for next year.
I love this- it’s so easy this time of year to focus on what didn’t get done and to let things slide. I’m working on some goals and definitely needed an attitude shift!
I love the idea of being kind to yourself this time of year. Goal reflection & goal setting can be tricky because it’s so common to be so hard on yourself, so I like that little reminder!! Thanks!

It is so important to finish the year strong! Truth be told, I’m struggling a bit. My procrastination about holiday shopping has me completely distracted from finishing strong. To finish strong you must remain focus on the goals you set earlier in the year. Thank you for reminding me. I’ll try to put it together before year end.
You got this! It can definitely be hard towards the end of the year/holidays, but all we can do is try our very best:)
I needed this encouragement! Thank you for sharing this post with us! let the countdown to the new year begin!
So true!! It’s time to stop regretting your wrong choices and focus on setting new goals.
Absolutely!
Totally going to take this advice! Thanks for this
You’re so welcome!
Great post it is so important to take stock in what you have accomplished each year and set goals for the next year.
Thank you Jen!
So true how we all review our entire year in our mind. For once, i am actually so please with 2018 and very proud of myself for accomplishing so much! This is a great boost of motivation to finish the year strong!! 🙂
I love that! I’ve been pretty proud of myself as well. I may not have done everything I wanted, but I sure did do a lot:)!
Thank you for this post. You’ve just given me my New Years Resolution- To be kinder to myself! One of the hardest things to do but it is so important.
I’ll be focusing on writing, crafting my specialty Christmas candies and my first gingerbread house, and focusing hard on staying consistent going into 2019! Definitely aiming to finish strong.
Thanks for the post. What a great reminder! So easy to be our own harshest critic. For the remainder of the year, I hope to enjoy the holidays and not be bogged down with stress and perfectionism.
